First Holy Liturgy Celebrated at the New Archdiocesan Center on Midland Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey

On December 26, 2008 His Eminence Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the First Holy Liturgy in the new Archdiocese Center on Midland Ave. in Paramus NJ. The occasion was “the Glorification of Virgin Mary”. This service took place at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the monastery. His Eminence was helped by the clergy and deacons from the Metropolitan area. When the Mass started, the faithful filled the whole chapel. His Eminence Attended a Lunch in Honor of Dr. Sam Kobia

On Tuesday, December 17, 2007 His Eminence, accompanied be Very Rev. Fr. John Meno attended a lunch in honor of Rev. Dr. Sam Kobia the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches. The lunch was hosted by His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America. Several Hierarchs and representatives of both the Oriental and Eastern Orthodox Churches were present. Dr. Kobia who was on a 3 day visit to Washington D.C and New York, briefed the gathering about the challenges facing the World Council of Churches following the Porto-Alegre Assembly.

New Mar Toma Bishop Visits the Archdiocese مطران كنيسة مار توما الملبارية السريانية يزور مقر الأبرشية

On Thursday, 28 of May at 4:00 pm the new Mar Toma Bishop in North America and Europe the Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Mar visited the Archdiocese headquarters in Teaneck, NJ.

He was warmly welcomed by His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim and Very Rev. Fr. John Meno. He was accompanied by Rev. Thomas and Mr. Thomas, of St. Peter’s Mar Toma Church in Teaneck, NJ.

Cordial speeches were exchanged and fruitful discussion took place concerning the common heritage of the two churches and their efforts in preserving the Holy Apostolic Tradition of the Church of Antioch.

Quenshrin

The National Division of the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of Aleppo located the Syriac Monastery of Qenshrin on the left bank of the Euphrates river opposite the city of Jarablos.

Mr. Nadeem Fakash, the director of museums in Aleppo mentioned that the excavations, which lasted for two months, revealed that the monastery consists of two parts. A rectangular hall 16.5 meters long and 4 meters wide. It has a door 145cm high connecting it with the second part of the building. They also found large parts of 2 smaller halls.

Rev. Alan Shaltan Ordained a Priest in Enkawak, Iraq

February the third, 2008 was a great day in the life of Rev. Deacon Alan Alshaltan. His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, Archbishop of the Archdiocese for the Eastern United States, ordained him to the honorable rank of the priesthood. The ordination took place at St. Eliyah Church of Enkawa, Iraq.

Present at this celebration were many honorable dignitaries of the clergy in the Churches of Iraq, among them:

Senior Liturgy

The Senior Liturgy took place this year at the new Archdiocese Center, on Midland Ave, Paramus, in the small Chapel, on May 24, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. Following the Liturgy, His Eminence said a few encouraging words and each senior received a gift for attending. Seniors 75 were welcomed with their escorts for prayers and dinner prepared by the committee responsible for this occasion.

Swedish Suryoyo Choir Welcomed in Eastern U. S. A.

Our Suryoye parishioners had the best surprise from Europe. A group of Suryoye from different parishes in Sweden gathered together and formed a choir, headed by Malfono Issa Hobel. Their fame covered all Europe, where they held many successful performances. Malfono Issa Hobel wanted to bring his choir to the States to introduce the fruit of his efforts to his Suryoye brothers and sisters in America. He knew that this project will demand lots of preparations. He got in touch with His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim to ask his opinion about his plan, and as usual, Sayidna encouraged him and offered…

Syriac Monastery Wins Land Boundry Case, More Cases Postponed

Midyat, Turkey, Friday 22 May, 2009

Midyat, Turkey – In a landmark decision, the local Midyat Court has reversed the initial decision taken on 29 August 2008 by the Turkish Land Registration Court, which had granted three surrounding villages more than 110 hectares of land originally owned by the Syrian Orthodox Monastery. Later court cases saw claims of more than 300 Hectares of land by the surrounding villages for this Boundary Line dispute – all of which have been rejected by the court.
