His Holiness Consecrates a New Metropolitan
In the morning of Sunday 23 August 2009, His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, presided over the celebration of the Holy Qurbono (Liturgy) at St. Aphrem Monastery in Ma’arat Saydnaya, Damascus. During the celebration His Holiness laid His hand on Very Rev. Khorepiscopos Jacob consecrating him a Metropolitan, assistant to His Eminence Mor Polycarpos, the Metropolitan of the Patriarchal Churches in India. The New Metropolitan was given the new Episcopal name “Mor Antonios”. His Holiness the Patriarch was assisted by the Catholicos of India, His Beatitude Mor Baselios Thomas I and several Metropolitans of the Church.
After the consecration ceremony His Holiness welcomed His Beatitude the Catholicos, their Eminences the Metropolitans and the delegation which came from India to attend the consecration. His Holiness blessed the new Metropolitan, on behalf of the Holy Church, wishing him success in his ministry. The new Metropolitan, then, responded by thanking His Holiness for his trust and fatherly blessings promising to serve the Holy Church faithfully and devotedly.
Following the consecration everybody was invited to a lunch banquette offered by the Patriarchal Churches in India.
