Sunday the 4th of October was a historic day for our Syriac Community in Atlanta, GA. At 10:30 am His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim presided over the Holy Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) at our St. John Church in Atlanta. He was assisted by Rev. Fr. Eli Shabo and the choir. The Church on that Sunday was filled with the parishioners and some of their friends. During the Holy Qurbono, after the sermon, His Eminence elevated a group of altar servants to the ranks of Qorooye and Aphodiaqnoo.
The following were elevated to Qorooyo:
Aboud Kourieh, Christopher Guvan, Gabriel Kourieh, Joey Kourieh
His Eminence also elevated: Michael and Aboud Kourieh to the rank of Aphodiaqno.
It was the first time an ordination was held in the State of Georgia. At the end of the service His Eminence congratulated the newly elevated deacons and their families, as well as, the choir of the parish under the leadership of Mrs. Paula Kourieh. He also thanked Rev. Fr. Eli Shabo for preparing these deacons and for serving this parish with faithfulness and dedication traveling twice a month to celebrate Holy Qurbono.
