Oriental Orthodox Fall Meeting
On Tuesday, October 19, 2009, the Standing Conference of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in America held its annual Fall meeting at St. Leon Armenian Church in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim started the meeting with a prayer. His Eminence Khajag Barsamian presided over the meeting. Meeting started with a prayer Among the subjects discussed were our Oriental Orthodox youth, the Joint Commission of Eastern/Oriental Orthodox Churches, Christian Churches Together, Roman Catholic/Oriental Orthodox Dialogues (both US and international), the annual Concelebrated Liturgy and the yearly Oriental Orthodox clergy gathering. Among the decisions reached was the approval of a letter, to be signed by our hierarchs, calling all the parish priests and youth leaders of our sister Churches to make every effort to organize opportunities to bring our Oriental Orthodox young people together. Also a letter was commissioned to congratulate His Grace Bishop David of the Coptic Orthodox Church upon the occasion of the celebration of his ten years of service to the faithful in America. It was likewise decided that the next annual Concelebrated Liturgy would be in the tradition of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and take place on Saturday, April 17, 2010. A luncheon, served by the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Leon Parish, was provided to the participants following the meeting. The lunch was blessed by His Eminence Abuna Zakhariah of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Before departure, the participants warmly thanked the pastor and congregation of St. Leon Church for their kind hospitality and graciousness. His Eminence was accompanied by Very Rev. Fr. John Meno and Rev, Fr. Joseph Chamoun.
