Parishioners of the Archdiocese of the Eastern United States.
May the peace and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
In light of the recent government declaration of the H1N1 flu as a national emergency we wish to impress upon you the need to be cautious and take all necessary measures to protect yourselves and your families. Health awareness procedures, available from local civil and medical facilities should be studied and followed by all our congregations.
In this regard, we advise the Boards of our parishes to install sanitizing dispensers at different locations at the church’s entrances and in the halls, to keep our people from contacting any flu or H1N1 viruses, or spreading them. We also encourage parishioners who may have the symptoms of the H1R1virus to distance themselves from other parishioners for precaution.
As for those concerned about contracting illnesses by receiving Holy Communion directly from the hands of the priests, we wish to confirm that our faith upholds that the Body and Blood of Christ our Lord is received for the forgiveness of our sins and for the healing of our physical and spiritual infirmities. We wish, however, to remind you all that parishioners may choose to receive the Holy Communion in their folded hands.
Asking the Lord to bless you all and keep you in His care, we remain
Yours in Christ,
Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim
