Denho (Epiphany) Season

The Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch calls the Sundays that follow the Feast of Denho (Epiphany), which falls on the 6th of January, the Sundays of Denho. These Sundays can stretch from one to six Sundays depending on the date of Easter and the beginning of the Great Lent. This year, for example, there are three Sundays after Denho since Great Lent starts early on February 15th. The two Sundays preceding Lent are always dedicated for All Priests and All Souls respectively.

Please help the Haiti Earthquake Victims, Appeal to our parishioners and friends

May the Grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

The island of Haiti has been wrecked by a strong Earthquake. Almost everything is destroyed, and there is no way they can stand up again without the help of others. The catastrophe is devastating to all of the residents of the Island. Help and aid flew from all across the country. We, as Christians, were ordered by the Lord to take care of the needy, feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Many of the churches in America responded to this call.

Fr. Saji Thomas is Consecrated a Metropolitan

Rev. Fr. Saji Thomas a member of the clergy of the Archdiocese of the Eastern USA was consecrated a metropolitan for the newly establish diocese of Mylapore in the State of Tamil Nadu, India. The consecration performed by His Beatitude Mor Baselios Thomas I, Catholicose of India at St. Athanasius Cathedral in the Malankara Syrian Church headquarters, Puthencuriz, Kerala on Monday, January 4, 2010. His Grace was given the Episcopal name of Mor OSTHATHIOS Issac. At the same ceremony another bishop, Mor PHILOXINOS Zacharias was ordained for the diocese of Malabar, Kerala. His Eminence Swears in Councilman Mike Ghassali

On January 3rd , 2010, the Borough of Montvale conducted the official swearing ceremony for the office of Councilman for a three year term. Councilman Ghassali, a member of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Teaneck, was sworn in by His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, accompanied by Councilman Ghassali’s wife Maryann, his sons Ellie and Danny. Family and church members filled the Montvale Borough Hall with about 50 members. In his role as a Councilman, Councilman Ghassali will also be the Borough Liaison to the local school board, Borough Administration and COAH (council on affordable housing).
