His Eminence Participates in the Funeral Service of the Late Mor Julius Kuriakose

Manjanikkara – India. On Monday, April 11, early in the morning, His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim arrived in Cochin-India to participate in the funeral service of the late Mor Julius Kuriakose, the Senior Metropolitan of the Simhasana (Patriarchal) churches/Institutions in India) and Former Secretary to His Holiness, our Patriarch.

Upon his arrival he, together with His Eminence Mor Titus Yaldho of the Malankara Archdiocese in North America, and Mor Dioscoros Kuriakose Metropolitan of the Simhasana Churches, travelled to Mor Ignatius Dayro (Monastery) in Manjanikara. In an atmosphere filled with high emotions of thousands of our faithful who were assembled, the mortal remains of the late Metropolitan were laid to rest.

The funeral service was led by His Beatitude Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I, Catholicos of India. He was assisted by over 20 Metropolitans of our Church in India and dozens of priests and deacons. During the service, our Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, was invited to do the Gospel reading in Syriac. At the end of the funeral service, His Beatitude the Catholicos anointed the body with Holy Oil (Zayto) and covered the face with `shushefo’ veil. A condolence message of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, was read by Mor Gregorios Joseph, Metropolitan of Kochi Diocese and Secretary of the local Episcopal Synod. Also attending were Archbishops and Bishops of sister churches, as well as, dignitaries and officials of the local government of the State of Kerala and representatives of different political parties.

After chanting the special farewell bid (Fush Bashlomo… Zel Bashlomo) the late Metropolitan’s remains were entombed in a special tomb made inside the church of the monastery as per his request. May God rest him in peace and reward him according to his love and loyalty to the Holy Church and to his labor in the Lord’s Vineyard.
