Following evening prayers, held at the Church of the Virgin Mary, a complimentary welcome dinner was offered by the Convention Committee and prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Jersey parishes. A magnificent concert of local choirs singing Syriac liturgical and folkloric hymns followed. This festive event drew a crowd of four hundred people. All those present witnessed the unity, love and cooperation which became visible as numerous volunteers worked hand in hand to insure the success of this initial convention gathering. Tuesday, the 12th of July, 2011, His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim paid a cordial visit to His Holiness, Mar Dankha the IV, Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, who was paying pastoral visits to his churches in the area. On Sunday, July 24, 3011 His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim held a group of children spellbound while reading from his new children’s book, In The Tree House. On this special Sunday afternoon, children and parents alike were caught up in the Archbishop’s reading and spontaneous interaction with the children.

The 48th Annual Convention of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch for the United States and Canada was underway on Thursday, July 21st and began with a meeting of Clergy from the Eastern and Western Archdiocese. The opening prayer at this first session was delivered by His Eminence Mor Clemes Eugene Kaplan, Archbishop of the Western Archdiocese.
The meeting’s agenda highlighted a Biblical presentation given by Very Rev. Rabban Raboula Somi from Sweden. The presentation was entitled “The Brothers of Jesus in the Syriac Tradition.” Present also was the Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Shabo of Aleppo.

Friday the 8th through Sunday the10th of July, 2011; His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, paid a pastoral visit to our parish of St. John the Baptist in Villa Park, Illinois.
During the three-day stay there, the parishioners of St. John shared H.E. in many important activities, that brought enthusiasm and joy to the parish: H.E. spent some time visiting the sick in hospitals and homes.
He visited also bereaved families who lost loved ones, and offered them his condolences coupled with his wishful regards.

Sunday Morning, July the 10th, His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, celebrated the Holy Qourobo (Divine Liturgy) at St. John the Baptist Church in Villa Park, Illinois. Rev. Father Yacoub Youhanoun assisted H.E. in the service. Almost 200 parishioners attended this celebration.
