AEC meeting of 9/7/2011

The Archdiocesan Executive Counsel held its regular monthly meeting with its new three year term members on Wednesday evening, September 7, 2011 at the Archdiocesan Complex in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Immediately after the opening prayers, the new members present were sworn in by His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim. The Archbishop and Dr. Yamo Deniz, Counsel President, congratulated the new members and asked them to use their talents to serve our Holy Church and the entire Archdiocese. The new three year term members include Orhan Abaci, Sabri Akman, Janine Azar, Pierre Ghazal, Samuel Murad, Farid Salci, Semir Sirazi and Nuran Tasci….

The Holy Cross Celebration in Midland Avenue, Paramus

On September 14, the Church celebrated the Feast of the Holy Cross in the new Archdiocese Center located on Midland Avenue in Paramus, NJ. The Holy Liturgy was celebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Shamoun Asmar, assisted by Rev. Fr. Eli Shabo and several deacons. Many parishioners from the local parishes attended the service.

Fr. Asmar talked briefly about the significance of the Cross in our Syriac Orthodox Church and traditions, as well as in the lives of Christians, in general. The Elevation of the Holy Cross was enjoyed by the faithful whose communal prayers filled the premises with our beautiful Syriac hymns….

Syriac Orthodox Priests at United Nations Service

On Monday Sept 12, Very Rev. Fr. Asmar and Rev Fr. Hadodo represented His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim by participating in the prayer service on the opening of the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Hosted by the Archdiocese of New York, which is located directly opposite the United Nations Complex on 315 East 47 Street, Very Rev. Fr. Asmar and Rev. Fr. Hadodo participated in opening prayers celebrated by a cooperation of diverse religions known as the United Nations Parish.
