Ordination of Deacons in St. Peter’s Church, Long Island
Saturday, October the 1st, 2011 His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) at 5 o’clock in the afternoon at St. Peter’s Church in Long Island, NY. He was assisted by His Eminence Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, the Archbishop in charge of the Patriarchal office in Damascus. Clergy and deacons from the local areas also participated. During the Holy Liturgy, Their Eminences ordained the following individuals to the rank of Qoruyo (Reader):
George Akgul, Majd Kedso, Saad Koodsi, Issa Masoodi, John Masoodi, and Christopher Masoodi.
His Eminence delivered a special sermon, stressing on the importance of serving the Lord on the altar, with fear and love. He explained to them also the prestigious privilege of being dedicated to the service of the Lord for life, and that it should be taken seriously.
At the end of the Church service, the new Qoruye (Readers) accepted the parishioners’ congratulations. Later, all attendees sat to a meal prepared in the church social hall.
