The Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Eastern USA is sponsoring this Pilgrimage, leaving from and returning to EWR. The trip leaves on Friday, May 4 at about 11 PM to the Holy Land and Jordan. His Eminence Attends the Consecration of Six Armenian Bishops

On Sunday 6 November 2011 His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim attended the celebration of the Holy Liturgy presided over by His Holiness Karekin II Supreme Catholicos of all Armenians at the Cathedral Church of Holy Etchmiadzin. During the celebration 6 vartabeds (celibate priests) of the sister Armenian Orthodox Church were consecrated as bishops. Two of the new bishops: Their Graces Haygazoun Najjarian and Vahan Hovanessian served as priests in Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church in the New York Area under the leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian.

During his visit to Armenia to attend the consecration of 6 new bishops, His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim was received by His Holiness Kareken II, Catholicose of all Armenians at the Pontifical Residence in Holy Etchmiadzin on Monday 7 November 2011.

Archbishop Karim conveyed to His Holiness the Catholicos brotherly love and warm greetings of his brother in Christ, His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East. Archdiocese Clergy Council Holds its Monthly Meeting

On Wednesday November the 9th, the regular monthly Archdiocese Clergy Council meeting took place at the Archdiocese Center in Teaneck, New Jersey.

It was presided by His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, and attended by the local clergy, in addition to Rev. Fr. Mattias Alan Shaltan from St. Ephraim’s Church in Rhode Island. His Eminence, Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, the Archbishop in charge of the Patriarchal offices in Damascus, offered the opening prayers, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance and help. Rev. Fr. November Meeting of the AEC

The Archdiocesan Executive Council held its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, November 9th at the Archdiocesan Complex in Teaneck, New Jersey. His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim opened the meeting with a prayer after which he covered his recent trip to Armenia where he attended the consecration of six Bishops, two from New York, with whom he collaborated and worked with over the years. His Eminence’s Ecumenical initiatives have put our Syriac Orthodox Church in the forefront in this arena, always encouraging continued dialogue and mutual understanding.

Annual Oriental Orthodox Churches’ Concelebration of the Holy Liturgy

On Saturday November 19, 2011, the Annual Oriental Orthodox Churches’ Concelebration of the Holy Liturgy took place in the sister Coptic Church of St. Michael and St. Mina in Staten Island, New York. His Eminence Mor Archbishop Cyril Aphrem Karim together with local clergy and some parishioners represented our Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church. His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian represented the Armenian Orthodox Church and His Grace Bishop David represented the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Concelebration also had representatives of the Archbishops of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox and Ethiopia Church.

Elevation of Rev. Father Gabriel Adde to the Khouroyo Level

On Sunday November 20, 2011, at 5 PM, St. Peter’s church in Hicksville, New York, enjoyed a great day of love and appreciation. His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) to elevate Fr. Gabriel Adde to the rank of Archpriest (Khouroyo). Also present was His Excellency Mor Barnaba Yusef Habash, from our sister Syriac Catholic church, as well as many of the local clergy and parishioners. St. George’s parish choir mesmerized the attendees with their beautiful chanting of the church hymns suitable for the occasion.

40th Day Memorial for the Late Very Rev Fr. Samuel Akdemir

On Sunday, November 27 His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was assisted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Chamoun, the cathedral’s priest, and a large number of deacons.

Flowing the Holy Qurobo, His Eminence presided over a special 40th day memorial service of the late Very Rev. Khouroyo Samuel Akdemir. All clergy of local parishes joined the service. The Archdiocesan Executive Council (AEC) presented its 2011 fall lecture Sunday, November 27, 2011. Held at the Church of the Virgin Mary in Paramus, this was the first time that the AEC chose to highlight a topic that does not strictly center on the history of the Church.
