Archdiocese Clergy Council Holds its Monthly Meeting
On Wednesday November the 9th, the regular monthly Archdiocese Clergy Council meeting took place at the Archdiocese Center in Teaneck, New Jersey.
It was presided by His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, and attended by the local clergy, in addition to Rev. Fr. Mattias Alan Shaltan from St. Ephraim’s Church in Rhode Island. His Eminence, Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, the Archbishop in charge of the Patriarchal offices in Damascus, offered the opening prayers, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance and help. Rev. Fr. Joseph Chamoun, from St. Mark’s Cathedral, presented for discussion, a topic about priesthood, taken from the writings of Saint John Chrysostom.
After exchanging views and ideas about the subject, by the participating clergy, previous items from last month agenda were discussed. Also, a feedback on the “Bible Reading Week ” was evaluated by the attendees, and ways of making it more successful were suggested and discussed in detail.
This was followed by a discussion about the Sunday School Curriculum, and the stages of its preparation were explained by His Eminence. Additional suggestions from the clergy were taken into consideration.
Finally, a plan for a “Conduct Code” in the Church was suggested to be put together, printed, distributed and be implemented in the churches for the benefit of the parishioners. Church goers should be well informed about the proper behavior during the Holy Liturgy service, and in the church premises.
His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim closed the meeting with thankful prayers to the Lord for His blessings and guidance, and for the good and positive participation of the clergy.
