Ordination of Deacons at the Church of Virgin Mary, Paramus, NJ
On Sunday, November 24, 2013, His Eminence, Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) with the parishioners of the Church of Virgin Mary in Paramus, New Jersey. His Eminence was assisted by the Very Rev. Fr. John Khoury, the pastor of the church. The Divine Liturgy was served by both the deacons and the choir of the Parish. During the celebration, His Eminence elevated to the rank of Aphodiakno (Sub-Deacon) the following Readers: Phillip Akdemir, Sharo Atmeh, Daniel Akdemir, Brian Akdemir and Michael Akdemir. He also elevated to the rank of Qoruye (Readers), the following altar servants: Andrew Ayaz, Joseph Akdemir, Gabriel Akdemir, Steven Akdemir, Matthew Aydin and Christopher Akdemir.
During the celebration, His Eminence delivered a spiritual sermon on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. Afterwards he offered some instructions to the newly- ordained servants, highlighting the importance of the service of the Lord’s altar, which compares to that of the angels. He congratulated them and their families on this blessed privilege. At the end of his sermon, His Eminence administered the Oath Ceremony, and offered his blessings and encouragement to the new parish council members of the Church of Virgin Mary, while he thanked the old council for their hard work and dedication in serving their church.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the new deacons, received the congratulations of the parishioners.
